Dry conditions with near normal temperatures are forecast to continue through the end of January into the start of February. As a persistent pattern that features a high pressure ridge is positions due north of a cutoff low pressure area. Known as a Rex block this pattern features a figure 8 upper level wind pattern that forces the storm track to divert far north over the ridge and into Canada. This block has been a persistent feature off the Pacific coast for much of January, as this feature is easily formed, yet hard to break down and move. For Nevada, we are on the eastern side of this feature which places us under north to NW flow aloft. This is a drier yet cool pattern, that allows for an occasional cold front passage to bring in cool air and only very light precipitation if any so for now the chances for any significant precipitation look to be very low through the first week of February.
