Shower and thunderstorm chances return to western Iowa on Thursday, but the main storm system will move through much of the area Thursday evening into early Friday. The environment will be favorable for efficient rainfall. Swaths of around 2 to 4 inches of rainfall are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Rainfall rates may also be rather high. As a result, flash flooding will be possible, with the greatest risk in urban areas. Dry soils in rural areas could also become overwhelmed by the efficient rainfall rates, but the risk is lower compared to urban areas.
