Strong west to northwest winds are expected to develop on Friday as a strong cold front moves through the area. Wind gusts will be increasing to 30 to 40 mph across the Northland, with stronger gusts anticipated along the North Shore. A High Wind Watch is in effect for southern Lake and Cook Counties on Friday afternoon into Friday night due to the potential for wind gusts in excess of 50 mph. Gales, and possible Storm-force winds, are likely over western Lake Superior as well.
