Weather Forecast Office
Strong Storms Possible Tuesday
Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday afternoon and evening, most likely between 3pm and midnight MDT. The initial threat with storms will be for strong gusty winds, which could locally damage outdoor property, trees and cause power outages. The probability of seeing 40 mph or stronger winds is 40 to 60 percent within the blue bubble on the map (north central Idaho and west-central/northwest Montana. There is a small chance (10-20 percent) that winds could reach over 60 mph with an isolated storm. Another threat with storms will be very heavy rain. This threat will become more likely by Tuesday evening. There is a 40 to 60 percent chance storms could produce 0.50” of rain in 30 minutes and a 20 to 30 percent chance of a storm capable of 1.00” of rain in 30 minutes. This could cause localized flooding in urban areas as well as debris flows on burn scars. Burn scars in Idaho County could be particularly susceptible.
