Summer-like heat is the big weather story this week through early next week where afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 90s are expected for most. Some spots in the Trans Pecos, portions of southeast New Mexico, and along the Rio Grande to see highs in the triple digits. Highs in low-lying areas of the Big Bend look to top out between 105 and 110 degrees each day, creating dangerous hiking conditions. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and take frequent breaks in shade or go inside a building with air conditioning if you must go outside.
