Through Wednesday, each day will be characterized by high temperatures in the 80s to lower 90s south, heat index values peaking near 100 from southern into central sections of Iowa, and intermittent thunderstorm chances mainly during the overnight to morning hours. Severe weather may be possible at times, with strong winds and hail the primary threats, along with locally heavy rainfall. A notable cool-down is then forecast later this week, with highs only in the 70s from Thursday onward and continued rain chances at times.
