WEATHER STORY
San Francisco/Monterey Bay Area
Weather Forecast Office
Beach Hazards Warming Trend this Week Elevated Fire Weather Threat
Planning a trip to the coast over the next few days Take extra precautions near the water! A long-period southerly swell, generated by distant tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific, is pushing toward our coastline. This swell will bring elevated surf and hazardous ocean conditions through mid-week. Here is what you need to know: What: Increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents, with breaking waves up to 10 feet expected at south and southwest-facing beaches and breakpoints. Where: Pacific Coast beaches across the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast. When: Now active through Wednesday Afternoon. Beach Safety Tips: 🪨 Stay Off Infrastructure: Keep off rock outcrops, jetties, piers, and breakwaters—sudden large waves can easily knock you off your feet. 🏊 Avoid Hazardous Surf: Remain out of the water. 👁️ Stay Alert: Never turn your back on the ocean! Always keep a close watch on children and pets near the water's edge.
