WEATHER STORY
Missoula
Weather Forecast Office
Dangerous Snow Squalls Expected Saturday Extreme Weather for Backcountry and High Passes
⚠️ "Clear one minute, whiteout the next." ⚠️ Dangerous snow squalls are possible from noon Saturday through Saturday night as a bitter cold front sweeps through western Montana. The highest risk area runs from Kalispell down to Missoula and east to the Continental Divide. Expect brief but intense bursts of heavy snow, sudden 30-50 mph wind gusts, and instant zero-visibility whiteouts. Temperatures will plummet Saturday evening, meaning wet roads will rapidly turn to ice. If you have travel plans on I-90, US-93, MT-200 or MT-12, be prepared for sudden, drastic changes in road conditions. Do not try to drive through a squall—safely pull over or delay your travel until it passes!
