NWS forecast: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Southwest wind 0 to 10 mph.
Scattered thunderstorms develop over western Iowa this evening, followed by a more prominent line of storms later tonight. The scattered storms may produce gusty winds, but the severe chances are low. The line of storms will have a higher chance of producing severe winds, but the system will be diminishing as it progresses east into Iowa. Therefore, the greatest risk for severe weather will be with storms as they arrive in western Iowa late tonight. Additional scattered thunderstorms are expected Friday afternoon, mainly over central and eastern Iowa. Some of these storms may have the potential to produce damaging winds and even a brief tornado. However, the severe risk should be fairly isolated. In addition to the isolated severe potential, heavy rain will accompany activity throughout Iowa tonight into Friday.
