Looking ahead to Friday, August 28, 2026, the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is monitoring a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms. This level 1 out of 5 risk primarily affects areas along and west of the Interstate 29 corridor during the late afternoon and evening hours. While a "Marginal Risk" indicates lower overall confidence in widespread severe storms occurring, residents should still be prepared for isolated instances of large hail and damaging winds. The NWS advises everyone in the affected areas to monitor the latest forecasts over the next couple of days and ensure they have reliable ways to receive watches and warnings as the weekend begins.
